SPOKES OF HOPE, PITTSBURGH, September 11th.

JOIN SPOKES OF HOPE in the battle to survive cancer and it's treatment.

What are we doing?

Coming together and riding in home towns and to cancer centers across the United States, to make a difference in lives affected by cancer, collecting names and dedications on banners, visiting cancer patients and conducting outreach programs, then traveling to Washington DC to make a difference there…. And everywhere we can in between.

When are we doing this?

Two big events, Saturday, September 11, 2010
Event leaders include Cindi Hart, U.S. Special Olympics cycling and speed skating coach and masters cycling champion and her husband, Ken, master cycling mechanic and cycle racing official. Both are cancer survivors.

“Bagels and Bikes” at Gilda’s Club, 9:00 till 10:30 a.m., 2816 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, (412) 338-1919. Gilda’s is located in Pittsburgh’s historic “Strip District”. Anyone who has faced a cancer diagnosis or is supporting a friend or loved one with the disease is encouraged to attend and learn about biking back to happiness.

Spokes of Hope Special Discussion on “Long Distance Cycling” will use the REI conference facilities at their new Settlers Ridge store, just off the Parkway to conduct a one hour program with lots of time for questions and answers from the experts, including bike selection, preparation, training, and skills development. All are invited!

Following the session - 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. - the event will move outside for demonstrations of riding technique and bike setup. Members of the Oncology Nursing Society will be on hand to discuss the importance of cancer screening and early detection and treatment, and cancer survivors will talk about their battles with the disease.

Bring your bike! Following the event, an informal 5 to 10 mile ride to Settlers’ Cabin Park may be conducted depending on weather conditions.
